In class I referred to a post which compares the contractual and ownership related terms associated with different online video sites. Here it is: http://advancingusability.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/owned-legal-terms-of-video-hosting-services-compared/

Talking about copyright and money....

This piece about the history of commercial music in the US aired today on America Public Media's Marketplace program. Sounds like this guy has an interesting book about about it:

Author David Suisman talks with Bob Moon about the early days of popular music.

Osama's Cassette Collection - Worthless?

The FBI may think so, but not UC Davis prof Flagg Miller:

What is this?

Is this an archive? Can you help me decipher what it is they do? This is what they say, but I'm still sure:
"The Audio Preservation Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We partner with public archives, libraries, museums and research centers to preserve the music and sound recordings comprising the aural history of our world."
Does that mean they digitize materials for other institutions? But it looks like they have their own collection.

blogs

I'm been thinking about the idea of using a blog as a way to explore a music collection and wanted to share a few I've come across and was wondering what are some favorite sites from other people in the class.

The Old, Weird America: My Exploration of Harry Smith's Anthology
Awesome Tapes from Africa - this site has greatly expanded my African music collection and has lots of links to other great blogs including Record Envelope: the little library of record sleeves
